
For the second time during the COVID-19 pandemic, an outbreak has been declared at the Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre, as new daily cases and deaths from the virus remain high across the province.
According to Interior Health, one staff member and one resident have contracted the virus at the long-term care home on Tranquille Road.
There is one other active COVID-19 outbreak among long-term care homes in Kamloops, which is at the Overlander Long-Term Care Centre. There have been 28 cases, including 21 residents, and five residents have died, but no new cases have been reported in almost four weeks.
Meanwhile, today, health officials say there were 1,370 new COVID-19 cases and 25 deaths over the past three days. In the Interior, there were 222 new cases and seven deaths in that time.
Elsewhere, on the weekend, there were 603 new cases in Fraser Health, which continues to see steady case growth. There were also 124 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, 203 in Northern Health and 218 in Island Health.
There are 436 contagious hospital patients across B.C., which is the same number as Friday.
As of today, B.C. has also hit 90 per cent for a first-dose vaccine rate among people who are 12 and older, while 85.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.
