UPDATE – Interior Health has declared another COVID-19 outbreak at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.
The outbreak is in Unit 5 South, though it is unclear how many cases are connected at this time.
“Asymptomatic testing of patients at the unit is ongoing and we will have an update tomorrow with the number of staff and patient cases,” Interior Health told NL News, in an email statement.
Unit 5 South has been closed to new admissions, the health authority says, adding that an outbreak management team has been created.
“The hospital remains safe to visit for anyone needing emergency care,” IHA added.
This is the fourth COVID-19 outbreak at the hospital in Kamloops during the pandemic.
The other outbreaks have been at Unit 6 South, a surgical unit, which was impacted during the first outbreak in January and February and the second outbreak in June and July, and in Unit 6 North, the dedicated space for COVID-positive patients, which was impacted in the first outbreak and during the third outbreak in September and October.
“6N is can admit both COVID-positive and COVID-negative patients (separated, proper COVID protocols, etc.), while 6S does not admit COVID-positive patients,” the IHA statement said.
Unit 5 South is not meant for dedicated COVID-positive patients, which an IH spokesperson telling NL News it is a “medical unit” in the hospital.
NL News will update this story as more information becomes available.
