A Kamloops man killed in an accident in Sicamous on the weekend has been identified.
According to a GoFundMe page set up by colleagues, 48-year-old Shaun Michael was the person killed when a head-on crash happened Saturday night on the Bruhn Bridge, on the Trans-Canada Highway.
Police had been called after an eastbound pickup truck crossed the centre line and hit Michael’s pickup head on, when he was going westbound. A 52-year-old Alberta man in the eastbound truck was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and police continue to investigate.
In the fundraiser page online Michael’s colleague Hope Bahry says he had been heading home after doing an emergency repair to telephone lines.
Bahry says Michael was a veteran telecommunications lineman who was well-respected in the industry.
“Without exception, we knew Shaun as a man that was always willing to help. His professionalism and true dedication to his trade and his team ensured project and network success across Western Canada,” Bahry wrote. “Shaun was a man who lived by his convictions. He was dependable and loyal. Shaun was our friend, and he will forever be remembered.”
Michael leaves behind a wife and two young daughters. Bahry says he was predeceased by a younger son.
“Shaun was a dad that loved to kayak with his girls. He was a dedicated husband that spoke of his loved ones with complete pride and a smile in his eyes,” Bahry said, adding he was grill master and talented woodworker.
At time of posting, the GoFundMe page for Michael’s family has raised $18,975. His employer, Global Broadband, has made a $10,000-dollar contribution.
