A Kamloops resident who’s stuck in the Lower Mainland says he’s opened up his house for friends who are stuck on the other side.
Jason Warner commutes to the Fraser Valley every week for work as a correctional officer.
This week, he happened to bring his family when he went down on the weekend, and they’ve now been stuck at an apartment they rent in Abbotsford.
But his house in Kamloops is not going vacant: he has friends from the Lower Mainland who happen to be stuck there.
“We have one friend, for example, who is on the Kamloops side who is going to need a place to stay. So we’re starting to fill up our house, even though we’re not there, we’re starting to fill up our house for people to stay at, who are friends that are stuck in this crazy weather that we’re having.”
Warner says those friends drove to Lillooet on Monday afternoon, hoping they could attempt taking down Highway 99. But they had to turn around once they arrived in Lillooet, and he offered his house as a result.
There’s no timeline for when any of Highways 1, 3, 5 or 99 will reopen, but Warner says he’s hopeful at least one of the highways between the Interior and the Lower Mainland could reopen in the next few days.
At this moment, the best chance appears to be for Highways 3 and 99 reopening in the days ahead. New video has show widespread damage
