Interior Health says all remaining COVID-19 outbreaks at Royal Inland Hospital have been declared over.
The outbreaks on units 5 North, 5 South, and 6 North were declared over Thursday, two days after the outbreak on Unit 7 North was declared over.
In total, there were 57 cases spread out across the four units of the hospital – 42 among patients and 15 among staff. There were also three patients who died – one on 7 North and two on 5 South.
Unit 5 South was the most affected with 29 cases, 21 patients and eight staff members. Unit 5 North had 12 cases, six patients and six staff, while Unit 6 South had 10 patient cases. Unit 7 North had six cases – five patients and one staff member.
The ongoing outbreaks led to some temporary visitor restrictions being put in place at RIH on Nov. 10, though Interior Health said in a statement to NL News those restrictions have been lifted.
“With the ending of the remaining outbreaks at RIH, we have lifted the temporary visitor restrictions that were in place,” the statement said.
On Tuesday of this week, Health Minister Adrian Dix said Royal Inland Hospital was facing “fundamental challenges” unlike other hospitals in the province.
According to Dix, there were 292 patients in the Kamloops hospital, making RIH the only facility that was over capacity when it comes to base beds.
