The Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association has found its new Executive Director.
Howie Reimer, currently the program director at Radio NL, will be taking over from Carl DeSantis, who is stepping down on Dec. 10, after four years in the role.
The pair made the announcement on the NL Noon Report on Monday, Nov. 29.
“I thank the board. I thank the executive and I couldn’t be more proud, more excited, and frankly more nervous,” Reimer said. “I could not be more excited to be joining the Downtown Business Association as its next Executive Director.”
“I think this is a particularly exciting time for Downtown Kamloops. The development has been robust. The Downtown Plan. Densification is coming. We’ve got a lot of towers [in the Hive and City Gardens] so I think we are ready for growth. I think we are ready for exciting things and I’m really excited to be a part of it.”
In addition to his role as Radio NL program director, Howie was the host of the NL Morning News from 2017 until 2021. He was also the Game Night Producer for the Kamloops Blazers for nine years.
In a statement, KCBIA Board President Dino Bernardo says they are confident that Downtown Kamloops will be in great hands under its new leadership.
“I can echo the comments form the board, from the executive, your executive actually now, and they are so happy that you threw your name in the hat and they are so confident in what you are going to do for downtown, as am I,” Carl DeSantis said Monday.
“You are such a supporter [of downtown] already. You don’t have to hit the ground running. You’re a marathoner already.”
Howie will start in his new role on Jan. 4, 2022.
