Kamloops Fire Rescue is advising the public about a large-scale controlled burn happening today and tomorrow near Pineview.
KFR says a contractor for the City of Kamloops is doing the work off of Lac Le Jeune Road, near the Trans Mountain pipeline, and says smoke will be very noticeable. “But don’t be alarmed, it’s under control,” the department says.
KFR Life and Safety Educator Jeff Pont says crews are thinning trees and collecting debris to burn in burn piles. “But rest assured, it’s controlled, there’s people on scene, and there’s professionals who know what they’re doing out there.”
The number of hectares of land being covered by this controlled burn is not clear.
Prescribed burns are done annually within Kamloops city limits, during the fall and winter months.
