Kamloops RCMP say an impaired driver was taken into custody on the North Shore after several vehicles were hit on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 4.
Spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says police were told about the driver who was in a blue SUV with “multiple flat tires” on Campbell Avenue round 3:30 p.m. that afternoon.
“The officer tried to stop the vehicle, then block it from leaving as the suspect attempted to drive away,” she said. “While trying to flee, the suspect reversed into a second police vehicle approaching, causing significant damage to the cruiser’s front end.”
Evelyn says with the suspect’s vehicle pinned, police officers were able to arrest the driver.
“The driver, a Kamloops man, was transported to cells where he allegedly refused to provide a breath sample,” Evelyn said. “He was released with a court date and conditions related to Criminal Code impaired driving offences to be recommended as part of the charge assessment and approval process.”
There were no serious injuries reported, Evelyn said, though a parked vehicle was also damaged along with the SUV and the police cruiser.
