The Kamloops Blazers are hoping to resume team activities tomorrow, Jan. 11.
The club shut down before the weekend following an influx of COVID-19 cases that were detected via rapid testing, which was later confirmed by PCR testing. It led to both weekend home games against Portland and Vancouver being postponed.
The Blazers are also hoping to play games this week although Wednesday’s road game in Portland looks to be in jeopardy. The Blazers are also scheduled to play games in Spokane and Tri-City this weekend.
“I think the hope is here for guys to be back around the rink tomorrow…for those without symptoms,” Blazers Head Coach and General Manager, Shaun Clouston told NL Sports.
He also confirmed that more cases were detected over the weekend after a round of PCR testing.
“The Wednesday game in Portland looks like it won’t happen at this point, but we’ll be talking to the [WHL] today for clarification,” he added.
The WHL has said it still plans to play a full 68-game regular season and make up any games that are postponed between now and the end of the regular season.
Of 23 weekend games scheduled across the WHL, only one was played – in Kelowna, where the Rockets lost 3-1 to the Portland Winterhawks.
