A pair of B.C. highways that connect the Southern Interior to the Lower Mainland have been closed because of the risk of avalanche.
Drive BC says Highway 1 from Yale to the Jackass Summit, north of Hope, along with Highway 99 between Pemberton to Lillooet are both closed with no estimated time of reopening.
However, Highway 3 between Manning Park and Hope has reopened after an earlier closure this morning for avalanche control work.
The Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt is also open right now for commercial traffic only.
Drive BC says highways in the province could close if there is a risk of avalanche, and people who have to be on the road are being told to be prepared for changing conditions.
Environment Canada has several weather warnings in place for parts of the province, though the River Forecast Centre has said the conditions are not expected to be as extreme as Nov. 2021, when storms caused catastrophic flooding in the Fraser Valley and the Southern Interior.
Still, it says heavy rain and warming temperatures could melt snowpack at lower elevations, raising water levels by Wednesday. There are high streamflow advisories in the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island, but nothing yet in the Southern Interior, though again that could change, should conditions change.
