Kamloops City Council has approved a pair of development permits for two multi-family housing projects.
The first was a 229-unit multi-family rental apartment complex with one, two, and three bedroom units at 3500 Valleyview Drive in the Orchards Walk area.
The application meets the intent of the development permit area guidelines with respect to site design, landscaping, and building design,” Marvin Kwiatkowski, the City’s Development, Engineering, and Sustainability Director said, noting the proposal also contains an dog run, a children’s playground, and food garden plots.
“Key features of the site design include an extensive pedestrian sidewalk network throughout the development and off-street parking provided at grade and underground.”
“In summary, the Development, Engineering, and Sustainability Department supports the development permit application as the site design, landscaping, and building design meet intent of the Multi-Family and Orchards Walk Development Permit Area Guidelines,” he added.

City council also approved a six-storey, 37-unit mixed-use development with eight one-bedroom units, 27 two-bedroom units, and two three-bedroom unit at 5th Avenue and Victoria Street downtown.
“The site consists of two properties currently used as a pizzeria restaurant (Pizza King) and a surface parking lot,” Kwiatkowski added. “The applicant is proposing to remove the exiting pizzeria and construct [the] mixed-use building…with ground-floor commercial space, and a two-level underground parking structure.”
“The Development, Engineering, and Sustainability Department supports the proposed development permit as the site plan, landscape plan, and building elevations meet the intent of the Downtown, Commercial, and Multi-Family Residential Development Permit Area Guidelines.”
Kwiatkowski says the proposed development downtown will qualify for 10-year tax exemption under the City’s Revitalization Tax Exemption Bylaw.
