Kamloops RCMP say they seized half a dozen airsoft and BB guns – including a replica “tommy gun” – from a motel on Columbia Street West on Tuesday night.
Const. Crystal Evelyn says police were called to the motel in the 500-block just before 10:10 p.m. after a caller claimed that people were outside his unit with a shotgun.
In a statement, she says that man told police he was holding off the intruders with a BB gun. Evelyn noted that while police were on route, the man also told them that the people moved to the back of the building and were planning to “shoot up” the motel.
“Multiple officers attended and cleared the area, confirming the report to be unfounded,” she said.
Evelyn tells NL News the man who made the call to RCMP was arrested for offenses including public mischief. He was released without being processed after he sobered up, though Evelyn says the investigation is still ongoing.
The weapons that were seized will be destroyed, she confirmed.
