
The Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre in Kamloops is dealing with a third outbreak of COVID-19.
Interior Health tells NL News the outbreak was declared on Wednesday, Jan. 12.
“There are currently two positive staff cases and two positive resident cases,” the health authority said, in an email.
The first outbreak at the care home was declared a year ago today, Jan. 13, 2021. It was declared over on Mar. 12, 2021 with 32 cases connected – 24 among residents and eight among staff – along with two deaths.
A second outbreak with six total cases – four residents and two staff – was declared on Nov. 1, 2021. It was declared over about three weeks later with no deaths connected.
Interior Health says all admissions, discharges and transfers to the care facility are on hold though individual cases may be reviewed by the Medical Health Officer.
Non-essential visits are also paused, though essential, palliative, end of life, and single designated visits may continue, the health authority said. Non-urgent appointments are also on hold, but any urgent appointments may continue.
As of publishing, there are seven Interior Health facilities with active COVID-19 outbreaks.
