The City of Kamloops will be launching a pilot project to expand remote payment options for daily and hourly parking at city‑owned surface lots on March 1.
It will coincide with the introduction of the free PayByPhone app, which allows drivers to pay for parking with their credit card using a mobile app, a computer or a phone instead of using a pay station.
Community Services Supervisor, Mo Perri, says the app will be integrated with the city’s parking system to provide real-time information to patrolling community services officers’ handheld units.
The pilot project will run until Aug 31, 2022, and will not include City-owned parkades on Lansdowne and Seymour streets. Staff say if the feedback is favourable, the pilot project will extend to on-street parking between Sept. 1, to Feb. 28, 2023.
“We have listened to feedback provided by users and are working towards improving the service,” Tammy Blundell, the City’s Community Services Manager, said.
“The purpose of this pilot project is to explore whether or not the PayByPhone app is what we’ve been looking for to address the challenges users are facing while allowing us to streamline technology to its fullest potential. Our goal is to ensure that paying for parking is easy and pain-free for the wide audience of users.”
The existing FlowBird app – which also allows you to pay for your parking sessions remotely through your mobile, tablet, or desktop computer – is still available as a mobile pay option for both on-street parking and surface lots. People can also still pay for parking at a pay station using either cash or a credit card.
Parking payment hours, rates, and timelines for street and lot parking have not changed and can be found here.
