New BC Liberal Leader Kevin Falcon did not take long to shake things up after winning his bid to be the new leader this past weekend.
Kamloops-North Thompson MLA Peter Milobar has been moved from Opposition House Leader to Finance Critic with Kamloops-South Thompson MLA Todd Stone taking over as House Leader.
In addition to House Leader, Milobar was critic for Indigenous relations and reconciliation as well as Environment and Climate Change.
Stone meanwhile will also continue on as critic for jobs, economic recovery, trade and innovation.
Cariboo North MLA, Coralee Oakes will serve as Caucus Chair, while Fraser-Nicola MLA Jackie Tegart is the party’s nominee for Assistant Deputy Speaker.
The door is also opening for Falcon to win a seat in Victoria as former BC Liberal leader Andrew Wilkinson announced today that he will step down as the MLA for Vancouver-Quilchena, one of the safest BC Liberal seats in the province.
It remains unclear when Wilkinson will officially resign, but once that happens, the provincial government will have to call a by-election within six months. Until Falcon wins his seat, former interim party leader Shirley Bond will stay on as Leader of the Official Opposition.
Falcon’s shadow cabinet also had prominent roles for his leadership rivals Renee Merrifield, Ellis Ross and Michael Lee.
Merrifield, the MLA for Kelowna-Mission, will be the critic for the Environment and Climate Change. Lee will serve as the critic for Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, while Ross will service as the critic for energy and LNG.
