With the inaugural Kamloops NorthPaws season beginning in just over two months, the team is looking for places for the boys of summer to stay.
Like the City’s junior hockey teams, the new West Coast League team will be billeting its players.
NorthPaws Operations Manager, Jamie Shinkewski, says being a billet is more than just putting someone up for a couple of months.
“We’ve had some really nice conversations with people that may be involved in the baseball community already or maybe other people that have different affiliations to our community but you talk to people who have come and gone from our community or other communities in various sports and the one connection you always have is that billet family,” he said.
“So, more than just a bed, it is opening your home and a bit of yourself in forming those life long relationships.”
Shinkewski adds there are a few requirements for people to meet if they want to billet a player.
“The big one is having that place to sleep, a place to do their laundry, do their day-to-day things away from the field,” he said. “Having some meals for the players when they’re not playing is definitely part of that and we will have a grocery stipend that’s part of what gets provided to the host families.”
If you’d like to look into becoming a billet, Shinkewski says you should go to the team’s website.
The NorthPaws play their long awaited home opener against the Edmonton Riverhawks on May 31.
