A high streamflow advisory has been issued for the Deadman River, a tributary of the Thompson River, located west of Kamloops.
The B.C. River Forecast Centre says snowmelt and rainfall over the past few days has caused the river to rise.
It says the flow on the Deadman River above Criss Creek is approaching 22 cubic metres a second, which would put it in the two-to five-year flow.
“Additional rain is forecasted for the watershed today and tomorrow, with hydrologic models indicating the potential for flows in the 20 to 30 cubic metre per second range (up to a 10-year flow) into this weekend,” the River Forecast Centre said.
“Wildfire in the watershed last summer may affect the runoff in the Deadman River watershed and lead to more rapid response in streamflow.”
People are being reminded to stay away from fast-flowing waterways and riverbanks that may potentially be unstable.
