The BC Lions are set to return to Kamloops for their annual training camp, and Fans are being welcomed back in person for the first time in two years.
Its the 12th annual year the Lions are returning to Kamloops for training camp.
The City’s Dewi Evans tells NL Newsday that be believes the Lions return to Kamloops every year because of both the fans and the facilities.
“The facilities that we are able to offer them here in Kamloops are second to none and they appreciate that . they come here and they have the training facilities, everything they need, the pool, the field, the track, everything, and then the support they receive from the community on top of that just adds to the entire package we offer them in Kamloops.”
Evans says having the lions train in Kamloops since 2010 continues to have a positive impact on the city.
“The community brings people from out of town and neighbouring communities to Kamloops, the economic benefit of that definitely goes a long way which is why we are so happy to have them and its a great partnership that goes both ways.”
Evans says the itinerary for this week consists of allowing players to get their bearings of the Tournament Capital Centre.
“Then next week is when the training begins so players will begin doing the on field training, which the public is invited to attend, you can see the schedule online and then they will start to cut their numbers down.”
Fans can show their Lions pride and watch all the practices as well as take part in a variety of festivities with players, coaches and trainers for Fanfest.
FanFest is set for Saturday May 21 from 5 until 9:30 pm at Hillside Stadium, and will include a free play with the pros clinic for kids 6 to 12, a scrimmage, and more.
