Kamloops RCMP say a Calgary man and a woman are facing several charges after a stolen truck report led police to a second stolen vehicle.
RCMP say they were called to the Pineview area around 7:30 a.m. this morning, May 19, to a report that a vehicle was being stolen. Police say they followed the vehicle to the end of Hugh Allan Drive, where they saw a man getting into a grey truck being driven by a woman.
Const. Crystal Evelyn says that grey truck had been reported stolen from Midway on Tuesday, May 17, and was linked to an attempted vehicle theft in Kelowna yesterday, May 18.
She says while police officers were able to stop the vehicle, it was not before two RCMP vehicles were damaged as the driver tried to evade police. There were no injuries reported.
“This happened in a residential area, during a time of day when the roadways are especially busy with kids making their way to school and adults travelling to work,” Evelyn said, in a statement.
“By stopping the truck, police were able to prevent it from fleeing the area, which would have increased the risk to public safety and allowed it to continue to be used for criminal activity.”
The man and woman, who are both known to police, are being held pending a bail hearing.
Evelyn says the woman, who was wanted on an Alberta warrant, had a number of conditions, including to not be in any motor vehicle without the registered owner present.
If you witnessed this morning’s incident, or if you have dashcam or surveillance footage of it, Kamloops RCMP say to reach out to them and reference file 2022-16535.
