Ken Uzeloc has been the named the new Kamloops Fire and Rescue Chief, succeeding Steve Robinson who retired at the end of April.
With over 30 years of experience as a firefighter, Uzeloc has been the Deputy Chief for the Calgary Fire Department for the past 15 years, where he oversaw portfolios in Risk Management, Diversity and Inclusion, Operations and Technical Teams, Planning and Compliance, and Administration.
“The City is fortunate to secure an experienced and accomplished professional to join our growing management team and to lead and mentor our firefighters,” Byron McCorkell, the City’s Community and Protective Services Director, said, in a statement.
“Ken possesses a unique balance of a rich educational background, strong leadership, and proven dedication to the fire service, which will benefit the management team, firefighters, and the community as a whole.”
Uzeloc began his career as a volunteer firefighter for the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary in 1986 before moving to Calgary in 1990.
In 2000, he was named the Calgary Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Officer before being promoted to Assistant Deputy Chief in 2007, and Deputy Chief in 2008.
“I am extremely honoured to be joining the dedicated team at Kamloops Fire Rescue and the City of Kamloops,” he said, in a statement. “I am excited for the opportunity to work with Kamloops Fire Rescue and to build on the tremendous service they provide every day to the citizens of Kamloops and the community.”
Uzeloc will begin in his new role on August 2.
