The B.C. River Forecast Centre has downgraded a flood warning for Blue River to a flood watch.
Issued yesterday afternoon, the flood warning was downgraded around 2:45 this afternoon as the River Forecast Centre says water levels are currently dropping in the Blue River area after the river reached its peak on Wednesday.
“Warming temperatures over the weekend and into next week will lead to accelerated snowmelt rates where snow remains, however there remains uncertainty over the extent to which the available remaining snowpack will be able to fuel significant additional rises to rivers next week,” it said, in a statement.
“Following hot weather over the weekend, there may be a break-down of the high pressure ridge with unsettled weather and severe thundershowers, which may bring additional flood risk next week.”
The River Forecast Centre is currently expecting flows on the North Thompson to ease into this weekend, though the South Thompson is expected to rise slightly.
As it stands, flood watches remain in place on the North and South Thompson Rivers and its tributaries, as well as the Thompson River from Kamloops to Spences Bridge.
A flood warning remains in place for the Quesnel River, while a high streamflow advisory also in place for the Nicola River.
The City of Kamloops is set to provide at update into the flooding situation at 9 a.m. Friday morning.
