Drivers on Highway 97 are being told to watch for floods and debris affecting the highway in the Monte Lake area.
Drive BC is asking drivers to follow the instructions from any road crews who might on scene.
In a tweet, Kevin Skrepnek, the TNRD’s Emergency Program Coordinator reported no new issues, saying staff from the regional district were on site with AIM Roads this afternoon.
“Reports are likely from the debris yesterday that is still quite visible,” Skrepnek said.
A 27 kilometre section of the highway between Monte Lake and Falkland was down to a single lane of alternating traffic for several hours yesterday after a thunderstorm blew through the area.
Last fall, a report said the Monte Lake area was at high risk for landslides and a moderate risk of flooding because of the White Rock Lake fire, which caused considerable damage to Monte Lake and Paxton Valley.
“Properties and structures on both sides of Monte Lake may be impacted by nuisance sedimentation and overland flows as a result of the fire, ” author Tim Giles, a Geoscientist at Westrek Geotechnical Services said, noting the highway could also expected to be impacted.
Giles recommended that the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure review ditch lines and culverts on Highway 97 between the Paxton Valley Road and the CN Rail track crossing east of Monte Lake.
