Logan Lake is getting a $100,000 grant from Northern Development to help replace the ice plant at the local recreation centre.
Mayor Robin Smith says the current ice plant at the rec centre is at the end of its life, noting it needs to be replaced.
“Just ensuring the safety of our staff and the public, I think its important to look at projects like these and it is going to reduce the amount of ammonia that’s stored directly on site.”
Smith says they’re looking to complete the ice plant replacement project next spring to help ensure the rink can stay open for a majority of the winter season.
“What we are hearing right now, is procuring some of the things that we are going to need to carry out the project might be a little bit of a challenge anyways so we are sort of thinking of our timeline being probably Spring of 2023,” she said.
“So hopefully with any luck, we will be able to operate for a majority of the season.”
Additionally, Smith says they received a grant worth over $1 million from Investing in Canada Infrastructure for Community Culture and Recreation.
Between both grants, she says the $1.4 million project is almost fully funded.
