Kamloops RCMP are hoping to find a local man who helped an officer in need on Wednesday morning on the North Shore.

At roughly 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, a Mountie arrived to a complaint on the 1000 block of Westminster Avenue where he found himself needing emergency backup.

“What came in as a standard complaint to check on a group of people allegedly using drugs and acting in a lewd manner, led to something much different when one of the men the officer was checking on left quickly,” said Corporal Crystal Evelyn with the Kamloops RCMP.

Evelyn says an ID check confirmed the man had an outstanding warrant and bolted.

The officer, then chased the suspect down, but ended up in a struggle with the suspect.

This is when someone nearby jumped in to help the officer, helping keep the suspect in-check until other officers arrived.

“The officer was alone at the time of the arrest and without the assistance of the civilian, the situation could have quickly gotten worse during the short time it took for other officers to locate him,” added Cpl. Evelyn.

The man left the scene before the officer could get his name,  and now Kamloops Mounties would like to hear from this man and thank him in person for his help.
