Two Kamloops Blazers have once again made Team Canada for the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championship tournament.
Forward Logan Stankoven and goaltender Dylan Garand will wear the Maple Leaf from Aug. 9 to 20 when the tournament gets underway in Edmonton.
Both players were part of Team Canada during the initial 2022 World Junior Tournament in December before it was cancelled due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases.
Stankoven scored a goal in the 11-2 win over Austria while Garand stopped 14 of 17 shots in a 6-3 win over Czechia, though the International Ice Hockey Federation has said all statistics and records from that first tournament will be disregarded.
This summer’s roster will look a little different as nine players are not returning including Shane Wright, Jake Neighbours, Dylan Guenther, Kaden Guhle, and Owen Power.
Connor Bedard, who scored four goals in the win over Austria, will be back as will Anaheim Ducks prospect Mason McTavish, and Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kent Johnson.
McTavish scored three goals and had five points in two games, while Johnson also scored a goal in two games.
The Canadian squad will meet in Calgary in advance of a six-day training camp at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on the Tsuut’ina Nation between August 2 and 7.
Canada is set to take on Latvia – who are replacing Russia as a result of the invasion of Ukraine – in their first game on August 10. They will also face Finland, Slovakia, and Czechia in the preliminary round.
