The body of a man who is believed to have drowned in the Thompson River on Saturday has not yet been found.
Kamloops RCMP confirmed to NL News today, Aug. 2, that witnesses told them that the man got into the water near McArthur Island Park around 5:30 on Saturday evening, July 30, to help a child who was struggling.
The man was reportedly swept away by the current, and Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says police have searched the area by boat, plane, and drone, but have not yet found a body.
Evelyn says the RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team is also investigating.
The man, who is believed to be from Vernon, has not yet been identified.
