Kamloops RCMP are asking people to speak to their children about the dangers and consequences associated with partying in public parks in the City.
It comes after a weekend beachfront party near the 200-block of Kitchener Crescent, near Overlander Park, on the North Shore which police say led to numerous calls and multiple assault investigations.
Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says police were called around 11 p.m. this past Saturday, noting a young, intoxicated person was taken to hospital after they were found unconscious near a beach party that reportedly had about 50 teenagers present.
She says police were also told that this young person was assaulted by a small group of teenagers.
“While responding to the party on Sept. 10, police officers on scene were met with another assault allegation, as well as several verbally aggressive and confrontational parties,” Evelyn said, noting the next day police were also told of another reported assault linked to the same Saturday party involving two other young people.
Evelyn says these two other people had been attacked by a small group of teens, at least one of which was also a suspect in a previous report at the same event.
“Police are working in partnership with the School District 73 in response to the recent allegations and safety planning,” she added.
In her statement, Evelyn says police and Community Service Officers spent the summer responding to complaints about parties which involved underage drinking, drug use, fighting, weapon possession and use, disturbances, vandalism, and “other illegal activities” at other places in the City including Pioneer Park.
“We are asking parents and guardians to talk to youth about what responsible behaviour looks like, before police have to get involved, issue tickets, and make arrests,” Evelyn said.
If you witnessed the party in question, have video of it, or any other information, you’re asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
