This Friday you can pick up breakfast at a drive thru and give to the Kamloops Food Bank at the same time.
The fundraiser will be taking place at both Cascades and Chances Casinos on Friday morning from 7:00 until 9:00 am.
You can make your donation and get breakfast to go.
The bank’s Executive Director Bernadette Siracky says the proceeds will be going to projects for children. “So it’s called Feeding the Future and that involves Starfish Backpacks, many people have heard of this program. We feed about 200 children, elementary school children, every weekend. They go home with a backpack full of food and those kids are identified by the school district as not having food at home.”
The other is for a younger group. “Basics for Babies, which we purchase formula, diapers, hygiene products year round to feed that population. We have school snacks that are available to our clients every time they come in and we also support 10 meal programs in the school district that the schools themselves operate with perishable products.”
Siracky sang the praises of both casinos and their staff. “Chances and Cascades are big donors for this event and they are coming trough in a big way for us. They are having about 50 of their staff donating their time, they’re donating all of the food and the wraps are amazing, there’s a vegetarian version and a meat version.”
It’s pretty simple according to Siracky. “It truly is a drive thru breakfast. We’re going to have folks directing traffic, we’ve got Argo Road Maintenance directing traffic. You come in, make a donation and then you drive through the parking lot and there’s tables along the way. We have a lot of sponsors that are really excited to be back in person.”
“We have Tumbleweed Toys giving some stuff to kids in the car, we have Petland giving treats for your fur babies, Save On Foods, McDonald’s coffee, It’s gonna be great.”
She says it’s pretty easy. “You just come on through on your way to work, you cap tap to donate, it’s 10 dollars for a 50/50 ticket and then just drive on through.”
Siracky says you can also order for your entire office by going to eventbrite.ca
