A festival celebrating the cultural diversity in Kamloops is finally getting off the ground this weekend after being kept on hold due to COVID-19.
The Tapestry Festival runs tomorrow at McDonald Park from noon until 5 p.m.
Patti Phillips with the North Shore Business Improvement Association says it is a good idea to bring your appetite.
“We have the Foodies Pavilion, which we’re super excited about,” Phillips said, on the NL Morning News. “We’ve got seven different cultures and you can try all different foods, probably some that you’ve never had before which is really going to be interesting.”
“It’s been a challenging event because I’ve had a lot of people that want to be in it but you have to be authentic. So, if somebody is selling Mexican food, you have to be from Mexico. Everything that you come and see will be completely authentic.”
There will also be a main stage with 17 performers dancing, drumming, and signing and even a 45-foot Chinese dragon.
Phillips says there will also be a kids zone with games from around the world that she notes many in Kamloops may not have even heard of.
“We also have the Multi Cultural Neighbourhood and it is set up like a street,” Phillips added. “So, there are going to be tents all the way down both sides and flags and lights and everything.
“It’s just going to be beautiful.”
