The City of Kamloops will be meeting with the Kamloops NorthPaws this fall to discuss potential upgrades to NorBrock Stadium.
Events Supervisor Sean Smith says the meeting will recap a successful 2022 West Coast League season, while also discussing what is next for the stadium on McArthur Island.
He says while there is money in the budget every year for minor upgrades to parks, facilities, and stadiums across Kamloops, any large upgrades will need approval from City Council.
“There is a set amount of basic funding available each year to do some projects but more significant projects will take longer planning and longer budget planning in advance,” Smith said.
“We are open to all ideas and again, as long as it is within budget and it is a reasonable request, then we’ll consider those.”
Smith added the City already made some upgrades to NorBrock Stadium earlier this year ahead of the NorthPaws inaugural season.
“We replaced all the shale with a new product in the infield. Safety fences to protect the fans. New fan zones, family zones. An improved sound system. Irrigation was replaced and we re-cut some turf lines,” Smith said.
“We gave it the first refresh its had for 16 or 17 years.”
Norbrock was built as a 1967 Canada Centennial project and seats approximately 1,500 spectators.
