UPDATE 4:50 p.m. – You may still see some police officers in the area of Parkcrest Avenue and Glenview Avenue on the North Shore, but Kamloops RCMP say the incident that led to a large police response has ended.
“We would like to extend thanks to residents and motorists for their understanding and co-operation as the incident was underway,” Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said, in a statement around 4:45 p.m.
“Residents may now return to their homes and any detours that were in place have now been removed. Regular traffic may now resume to the area.”
Police were called out to a location on Parkcrest Avenue just before 1:30 this afternoon to reports of someone being assaulted with a weapon.
When they rolled up, they say a suspect in a truck took off from the scene with Mounties noting that truck was later found on Glenview Avenue with a gun inside.
“One man was arrested shortly after from a residence nearby,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said.
No word on what may have prompted the initial assault, or possible injuries to the victim.
“This investigation is still in its very early stages,” said Evelyn. “[The public is asked to] contact the Kamloops RCMP if they have any information that may be helpful.”
No word on injuries to the victim, or what may have prompted the assault.
