Interior Health has issued an alert for drug users in the Kamloops area following “multiple non-fatal and fatal overdoses” in the community.
The alert, which was issued this afternoon, does not specify what type of drugs might be at play, but users are being told to get their drugs checked and to not use alone.
IH says drug checking is available at Ask Wellness on Tranquille Road.
It will also be available at Crossroads Inn and at the IH mental health and substance use office on Lansdowne Street tomorrow.
This alert comes as the BC Coroners report 62 illicit drug toxicity deaths in Kamloops in the first eight months of the year.
With an average of 7.75 deaths a month this year, Kamloops is on pace to hit 93 toxic drug deaths this year, the third straight record year, after 77 in 2021 and 60 in 2020.
