Andrew Cristall scored twice as the Kelowna Rockets beat the Kamloops Blazers 3-1 Saturday night in the first of ten meetings between the two WHL rivals this season.
Dylan Wightman opened the scoring for the Rockets midway through the first period, though Logan Stankoven’s tenth of the year with about a minute left ensured the score was tied after 20 minutes.
Cristall scored his first of the evening early in the second with his other goal coming midway through the third period.
The Blazers outshot the Rockets 45 to 24 on the night, with Kelowna mustering just three shots in the second and six in the third period.
Kamloops had 19 shots in each of the final two periods but they weren’t able to solve Talyn Boyko, falling to second in the BC Division with a 7-4-1-1 record.
Boyko was named first star of the night, his 44 save effort earning him his second win of the season, taking the Rockets to 5-7-1.
Dylan Ernst made 21 saves to take the loss, his fourth of the season.
Next up for the Blazers is a home game against Seattle on Wednesday, Nov. 9, before a rematch with Kelowna on Saturday, Nov. 12.
