The City of Kamloops will be hosting the 2026 edition of the 55-Plus BC Games from August 18 to 22 that year.
The BC Seniors Games Society announced that the games will return to the Tournament Capital of Canada in four years time, with Salmon Arm (2024), Nanaimo (2025), and Surrey (2027) also named host venues Monday morning.
“The four cities of Salmon Arm, Nanaimo, Kamloops, and Surrey will provide opportunities for their communities to continue to develop their expertise in managing a large community event and to develop volunteers who can provide skills in other events,” John Buis, the President of the BC Seniors Games Society, said, in a statement.
“Our board and members look forward to working with each of these communities in the next few years.”
The announcement that Kamloops will host the 2026 55-Plus BC Games comes a few months after Kamloops played host to the 55+ Canada Games, held from August 21 to 27, 2022.
“We are very fortunate to have award-winning facilities and the mix of venues to accommodate the variety of sport and competition that this event brings,” Sean Smith, the City’s Business Operations and Events Supervisor, said.
“We look forward to hosting this event in a few years’ time.”
Previous editions of the 55-Plus BC Games have seen competition in 22 activities and sports, including soccer, tennis, hockey, dragon boating, lawn and carpet bowling, archery, softball, cycling, and track and field, bringing with it a $3 million economic impact to the host community and surrounding area, according to the City.
This will be the third time that Kamloops has hosted these games, having done so in 1996 and 2013.
“The Kamloops Sports Council is excited to assist the City of Kamloops in their successful bid for the 2026 BC 55+ Games,” Duncan Olthuis, the Executive Director of the Kamloops Sports Council, added.
“We are thrilled to host 55+ aged participants from across British Columbia in 2026.”
