Operation Red Nose is looking for volunteers in Kamloops ahead of its annual safe ride home service this winter.
The goal is to recruit 250 volunteers for this year’s campaign, which will run between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. over 16 nights – Nov. 25, 26, and Dec. 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 29, 30, and 31.
Volunteer positions include designated drivers, escort driver, navigators, phone operators, and dispatchers.
Coordinator Elsa Poppleton says volunteers can either team up with their friends, family, or coworkers to form team of three or they can volunteer on their own and be paired with others.
“The fundraiser is such a valuable service to have in Kamloops and I am proud to be involved,” she said. “We know that this Christmas season there will be even more house parties and gatherings than ever, and we are determined to keep impaired drivers off the roads.”
The service is by donation and open to anyone who doesn’t want to drive their vehicle on any of the nights it is operational. All proceeds go to PacificSport Interior BC.
“PacificSport Interior BC, the host of Operation Red Nose is thrilled to be back in full force this year as last year we were dealing with a number of COVID-19 restrictions,” Carolynn Boomer, the Executive Director and Founder of Operation Red Nose Kamloops said.
New volunteers must compete an application form and complete a police information check with an accompanied letter. People who volunteers in 2019 and 2021 need to only fill out the application form.
