A large crowd is expected at Riverside Park on Friday as Kamloops will be holding its first full Remembrance Day ceremony since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking on the NL Morning News, Kamloops Legion President, Daniel Martin, says there was a sense of relief that things are getting back to normal.
“We’re really, really glad that we can do this,” he said. “We’re working hard with the City of Kamloops to make sure that the park is ready.”
Martin says city crews have been working steadily to clear the snow away from the park and they will be ready for lots of people.
“We will have five sets of bleachers this year instead of three or four like we’ve had in the past so we’re expecting a big crowd because this is the first time in three years that we can hold it in person at Riverside Park,” he told NL News. “So, hopefully by tomorrow this will be all done and we won’t have any snow in the forecast.”
He says people attending the ceremony should get there well ahead of the scheduled start time.
“I would suggest to people to get there around 10:30 a.m., everything will be underway by 10:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. with the two minutes of silence and then 419 squadron doing a fly be about 11:02 a.m. to 11:03 a.m..”
Martin says the Legion is very grateful that the Squadron will be making a return for this year’s ceremony.
