Michael Schnattinger made 41 saves but the Kamloops Blazers were unable to come away with the win in Portland, dropping a 3-2 overtime decision in the Rose City.
The Blazers led 2-0 after first period goals from Matthew Seminoff and Daylan Kuefler, though Marcus Nguyen pulled one back for the home team late in the period.
The Winterhawks tied the game early in the second through Luca Cagnoni, before Ryan McCleary scoring the game-winning goal with 15 seconds left in overtime.
Jan Špunar stopped 32 of 34 shots he faced for his sixth win of the season, helping Portland improve to a 16-1-1-1 record.
The Blazers, who dropped to 9-4-3-1, are back in action on Wednesday when they head to Kennewick, Wash., to take on the Tri-City Americans.
