The long anticipated and much-needed Boston Flats Eco-Depot is officially open, replacing the Cache Creek Transfer Station.
The new eco depot, located between Ashcroft and Cache Creek, opened to the community on November 15, offering improved solid waste and recycling services to those communities.
The Waste Reduction Coordinator at the Thompson Nicola Regional District says materials previously accepted at the Cache Creek Transfer station will continue to be accepted, along with expanded recycling opportunities.
“There are more options for commercial, demolition, and renovation materials, and the product stewardship programs like electronics, small electrical appliances, paint, used oil, all of those types of things can be accepted at our larger Eco Depot.”
Additionally, he says it’s located a shorter distance from Highway 1 than the old transfer station was, making it easier for people to access year-round.
“The old site was up a pretty steep dirt road and now we have a level gravel road access so it is much easier to access this time of year with all of the snow that has been flying, we can still get in and out of the new site very easily.”
Additionally, there is a weigh scale to provide accurate billing to customers. Customers can pay by credit, or debit, using a TNRD Eco Card, or on a charge account.
The Boston Flats Eco-Depot is open from Tuesday through Sunday from 8 am to 4 pm.
