Logan Stankoven and Daylan Kuefler had a goal and an assist each but the Kamloops Blazers couldn’t complete the comeback in a 3-2 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors Friday night.
The Warriors, making their first trip to Sandman Centre since January 2019, opened the scoring when Ben Riche and Ryder Korczak scored power play goals a minute 35 seconds apart early in the second period.
Brayden Yager, a projected first round pick in the 2023 NHL draft, ensured the visitors ended the period with a three goal cushion.
The Blazers came out flying in the third with goals from Stankoven (43 seconds in) and then Kuefler (at 7:37), but they couldn’t find the tying goal as the Warriors held on for the win.
Connor Ungar stopped 36 of the 38 shots he faced – 14 in the final period alone – to take the win. Michael Schnattinger turned aside 26 shots in a losing effort.
Next up for the Blazers is a trip to face the BC Division-leading Prince George Cougars Saturday before hosting Connor Bedard and the Regina Pats on Wednesday.
Nice to have the CHAMPS in the house last night! 🏆@GoTRUWolfPack 🔥 https://t.co/mlF0OAUUDS
