A pit at the Highland Valley Copper Mine near Logan Lake has been reopened.
Teck Resources has confirmed the so-called Valley Pit is now operational, 10-days after it was shut down due to “geotechnical instability” — the risk of a slide or collapse.
A short note from Teck says there was no impact to employees or the surrounding geography.
The shutdown of the Valley Pit on December 5, came over two weeks after workers at the giant mine took part in a short-lived “safety stand down” due to concerns about the collapse of a massive scoop shovel which was undergoing maintenance at the time.
