With Christmas now behind us, it is time for Ed The Security Guy’s annual charity Christmas Tree pick up.
Owner of Lapper Security, Ed LaPierre is set to collect your trees and take them to a local recycling depot. All he asks is a minimum $10 donation in support of the Kamloops Hospice House.
He says this will be the 22nd year that he has been doing this. “It was pretty slow in the first few years because you know, in the beginning there was no social media and that kind of thing. So it was hard to get the word out and we only collected maybe a few hundred dollars. But last year and the year before was $4,000 raised for Kamloops Hospice.”
“My brother passed away in Kamloops Hospice from prostate cancer. Having to deal with them for the last week of his life was amazing. The people up there are just incredible and I found out they don’t really have a whole lot of funding. They don’t have provincial funding and stuff like that so I wanted to give back for what they did for my family.”
If you wish to have your tree collected you should do your best to make sure you clear it off all decorations. LaPierre says he has found ornaments in the past that appeared to have sentimental value, but because he picks up from so many homes (about 70 per day) it is extremely difficult to try and return them.
To have your tree picked up you can call or text 250-851-1131 or send an email to: securityguy@telus.net. You are asked to include your name, contact number, address and the day you would like to have your tree picked up. The deadline is January 2nd for the first weekend and January 9th for the second weekend.
If paying by cheque please make payable to Kamloops Hospice.
