A major cannabis retailer in Canada has decided to set up shop in Kamloops — adding another option for consumers in a rapidly growing local market.

“We put a lot of time and effort into actually selecting our locations,” High Tide Chief Corporate Officer Omar Khan told NL News.  “That’s why we landed on Kamloops, because all of the data coming back indicated this will be a highly successful location.”

The new Canna Cabana store on Hillside Drive, near the Walmart and TRU, is High Tide’s 7th BC location, and the Nasdaq-listed company’s 151st retail store in Canada.

The Calgary-based company says it chose this particular location in Kamloops to avoid the glut of other pot shops in the city.

“It is more competitive in certain areas than others,” said Khan.  “So we do see, in some of the larger downtown cores, we do see an over-saturation of cannabis stores.”

The High Tide launch represents the 16th active pot shop in Kamloops.

By comparison, Kelowna — which has nearly double the population — has 21 retail cannabis stores in operation.
