Kamloops RCMP say a Logan Lake man is in custody after a police officer was flagged down by a pedestrian on Cammeray Drive in Rayleigh on Tuesday morning.
RCMP spokesperson, Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says the officer was directed to a man who was slumped over the steering wheel of a truck that was idling at the end of Spurrway Road and Huckleberry Place around 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Jan. 17.
“With the assistance of backup, the officer took a man into custody without incident,” she said, noting the truck had been reported as stolen. “A search related to the investigation also led to the seizure of a firearm and ammunition.”
Police say John Wasyl Swystun is charged with one count each of improper storage of a firearm; unauthorized possession of a firearm; unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and possession of a stolen vehicle. He has a court appearance tomorrow, Jan. 20.
If you have information related to this or the stolen truck investigation, Evelyn says to contact the Kamloops RCMP and reference file 2023-1956.
