The City of Kamloops is set to review a proposal to potentially make it easier for people to get different food options at civic venues.
The pitch, first made by Councillor Bill Sarai in December, suggests a review of the food service options at facilities run by the city, such as the Sandman Center and MacArthur Island, in addition to public parks.
Sarai says his intention isn’t to ditch the current food providers but rather to look at adding more options.
“What is the rationale, who is the provider, why isn’t it being provided, and if it’s not being provided what are our other options? We as a City have to maybe invite in other food trucks or other vendors.”
Ultimately, Sarai stresses the goal is to provide a plethora of options for people who take in events in the Tournament Capital.
“When they go to watch their son or daughter or brother or wife play a soccer game or a baseball at Rayleigh Park they should have the opportunity to go to a food truck or multiple food trucks,” he said.
“You should be able to go to Riverside Park and we should allow food trucks to park in the parking lot and pay the same rate of that parking stall as what it would have cost for the day for a car to be parked there and provide a service that is not there now.”
Sarai’s plan is going before a Kamloops City Hall committee this week, with expectations the plans could end up going before Council next week.
