Kamloops RCMP say a man was arrested in Tappen after an attempted robbery last night on Nicola Street downtown.
Mounties say they were called to the 400-block of Nicola Street around 7:53 p.m. to reports that two men were fighting near a vehicle that had crashed and rolled over.
In a news release, Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says one of the two men yelled out for someone to call 911, noting the other was seen fleeing the area with “visible injuries”.
“Multiple police officers responded and found the owner of the crashed vehicle, who alleged a man had tried to rob him and an altercation occurred inside his vehicle, which caused his vehicle to collide with two other vehicles, then flip over,” Evelyn said.
She says the suspect – who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant – fled on foot down Battle Street and left in a vehicle. He was later found and arrested in Tappen and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“Thanks to the fast response of the officers attending and the assistance of the Salmon Arm RCMP Detachment, police were able to quickly take a suspect into custody and the investigation is progressing well, with assistance provided to the frontline officers by the local Forensic Identification Services Unit and General Investigations Support Team,” Evelyn added, noting the victim was treated and released at Royal Inland Hospital.
Mounties are asking people who might have seen, heard, or recorded anything to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-6241.
