A WestJet flight from Kamloops to Calgary with 75 people on board was diverted to Kelowna this afternoon because of engine failure.
Flight Ws3252 left Kamloops around 3:12 p.m. Thursday, according to flight tracking websites, and landed safely in Kelowna at 4:45 p.m..
“WestJet Encore flight 3252 travelling from Kamloops to Calgary with 75 guests on board, safely diverted to Kelowna International Airport this evening due to a mechanical issue with the aircraft,” WestJet spokesperson Madison Kruger said, in an emailed statement to NL News.
“The crew followed standard safety procedures and the aircraft landed safely at 4:45 p.m. local time.”
It appears the issue began over the Grindrod area, southeast of Salmon Arm, with the plane circling over the Falkland and Westwold area before approaching Kelowna Airport.

Kruger says WestJet is working to reaccommodate all of the passengers who were on board onto the next available flight to Calgary.
“We sincerely apologize to our guests for this inconvenience the diversion has caused and appreciate their patience and understanding as we worked to get them on their way as soon as possible,” Kruger said.
