The Transportation Safety Board is investigating after a WestJet flight bound for Calgary made an emergency landing in Kelowna on Thursday afternoon.
The flight from Kamloops, which left around 3:12 p.m., was diverted after an engine caught fire shortly after take-off, though it was out by the time the plane landed at 4:45 p.m..
While it appears the issue began over the Grindrod area, southeast of Salmon Arm, details are limited. The TSB says it will gather information and assess what happened so the agency can determine the scope of its investigation.
WestJet says there were 75 passengers on board the De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 plane, who were rebooked onto alternate flights.

The crew followed standard safety procedures and the aircraft landed safely,” WestJet spokesperson Madison Kruger said, in an emailed statement to NL News.
“We sincerely apologize to our guests for this inconvenience the diversion has caused and appreciate their patience and understanding as we worked to get them on their way as soon as possible.”
