The Kamloops North Paws are on the hunt for a new bench boss once again.
Former major league Brian Anderson, who had signed on to be the Head Coach in Kamloops this summer, has accepted a position with the baseball program at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
“I got informed last Thursday that Brian had an opportunity with Northwestern, obviously an NCAA Division 1 school and at the end of the day, all I can say to him is congratulations,” NorthPaws co-owner Norm Daley told NL Sports.
“If he has the opportunity to move up to a differently level, I think that is what our league is all about is having people move on to the next life.”
Anderson was set to become the NorthPaws’ second head coach, replacing Cole Armstrong behind the bench for the team’s sophomore season in the West Coast League.
Daley says the team expects to name a new head coach relatively soon, noting the change shouldn’t impact preparations before the season opener on June 2 in Victoria.
“We do have time to process this, we do have time to get a new person in place,” Daley added. “We have some continuity with [pitching coach] Jose Bautista coming back and players coming back.”
“I think we’re just going to find a great leader that can move these athletes forward in their career this year.”
The NorthPaws home opener at Norbrock Stadium is on June 6 when they host the Portland Pickles.
