Kamloops Blazers forward Caedan Bankier has been nominated for the WHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player award.
It is the first ever WHL end-of-season award nomination for Bankier, who will go up against Medicine Hat’s Andrew Basha, Moose Jaw’s Brayden Yager, and Portland’s Gabe Klassen for the Brad Hornung Memorial Trophy.
The 20-year-old Bankier set career bests in goals (37), assists (48), and points (85) in the 2022-23 WHL season, while accumulating just 23 penalty minutes over 57 regular season games.
The Surrey native also helped Canada win gold at the 2023 World Juniors in January and signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild in March.
A fourth round draft pick of the Blazers in the 2018 WHL Draft, the six-foot-two Bankier has 188 points (76 goals and 112 assists) and 58 penalty minutes in 202 regular season games.
He’s also got 19 points (nine goals and 10 assists) and six penalty minutes in 20 playoff games.
The winner of the Brad Hornung Memorial Trophy will be announced on May 4.
