The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library system has been given a major cash injection.
The TNRL announcing Tuesday it has been given over $533,569 from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, Public Library Branch.
Regional Head Librarian Judy Moore says they’re still trying to figure out where they’re going to spend the money.
“We’ve got lots of little quick wins that we might want to consider but the majority of that money needs to be an investment that will really help us to move forward as a public library system.”
Moore does say she expects the money will go towards projects which bolster the core of the library system.
“I started to think about technology some of the things that we’ve wanted to get to for the last number of years, and projects that will benefit Kamloops and all of our other libraries across our Regional District.”
The BC government has earmarked the money for the regional library system without any spending stipulations — other than the money has to be spent in the next couple of years.
“The timeliness of getting items into patrons’ hands and really focused on on the roots of the public library which of course our community literacy, and every man’s university, if you will,” said Moore.
The grant is part of a one-time investment of $45 million by the Province of BC, which is shared between all 71 public library organizations.
The TNRL provides services through 12 libraries, a Mobile Library, a digital library collection, and Library Home Service.
